The first step to achieving this goal is an early understanding of the project requirements. We understand that a project may not be fully defined at the start of our involvement. We work with you to understand the product requirements in a general way, and then through a collaborative effort, finalize a specification.

Once work begins, we communicate progress regularly to ensure that the project is going in the right direction. During the concept phase, we examine and present the best design options and their pro’s and con’s for a team consensus before final design work begins.

Most importantly, we remain flexible in the design process as we realize that product specifications can change as designs start to solidify. We will make every effort to communicate the “feel” of the designs early in the process so changes have a lesser impact on the overall project. Should changes be desired later in the program, we will work quickly to determine what if any cost, time or reliability penalties will be incurred so an informed decision can be made with regard to implementing the changes.

Design Advantage will develop quality products and sub-components. As a part of this process, we work with you to design products that are consistent with your existing product lines. We are also capable of completing formalized FMEA’s and use the principals of failure modes and effects analysis during each step of the design cycle. We understand that early hour performance and long term durability are critical components of a quality product. For this reason, robust designs and thorough product validation activities are at the forefront of our priorities. A great design must meet the needs of the customer and be reliable, but we understand that it must also meet the cost targets to be a success. Cost control is a product of good communication, technical knowledge and good management.

We start the project with an estimated costed bill of materials and systematically update the bill as parts are designed and quoted. By making this a continuous process, we lessen the chance of being caught off-guard by cost overruns and are able to make adjustments early if a cost problem should arise. We work closely with your purchasing teams and suppliers from the beginning of the project to eliminate costly design iterations. We promote commonality by thoroughly researching existing parts before making the decision to design and incorporate new ones. Innovative design techniques are used to reduce part and part number counts.

Design Advantage will develop products in a reasonable amount of time. As with the other factors, we understand that timing is a key ingredient to the success of a project. We are committed to completing the project as quickly as possible. We monitor and ensure not only that project milestones are being met, but that long lead parts are designed and considered first so that the prototype and pilot builds can begin on schedule. We follow up to make sure that parts are on schedule for delivery. We work cooperatively with suppliers and internal teams, coordinate test activities, schedule required meetings and communicate progress regularly. In short, we take ownership in the entire project to ensure that it runs smoothly.
